Hanbury Steam Rally 2009

Welcome to my first post on this blog.

On 18th, 19th and 20th September 2009, vintage tractors, commercial and military vehicles, stationary engines, classic cars and motorbikes congregated at Little Intall Fields of Stoke Prior, Worcestershire for Hanbury Steam Rally 2009. The event was organised by Shakespeare Rallies, who organise many events througout the year. The turnout of classic cars and Stationary engines was very impressive. The turnout of classic commercials and steam engines was also very good, although the turnout of classic tractors could have been better. Approximately 30 tractors exhibited at Hanbury, although we had a few more come on Sunday. The weather was kind to us, both days were very sunny and the ground was dry allowing the steamers to do a few laps of the ring. There was a prize for best steamer, the winner being a 1934 Foden C Type Tractor, the tractor was used on London docks and is now owned by James Harvey Bathurst. A tractor that caught my eye was a David Brown 770 Selectamatic, the tractor spent 40 years on a farm in Hamburg, Germany. The tractor was imported back to the UK in 2005 and was stored in a container for 2 years until restored by her present owner. Pete Summers's 1944 Fordson N and Ransomes Montrac 3 furrow plough won best tractor in show. Me and Dad took along our tractors, a 1980 Ford 1200 Compact Tractor, built by shibaura of Japan, and our 1967 Wheelhorse Lawnranger built in the USA. Although the tractor section was lacking in numbers slightly, there was a wide range of models includeing: Fordson, David Brown, Massey Ferguson, Ploughmaster, BMC, International. SE Davis provided a Caterpillar crawler. Please click on the images below to enlarge and thankyou to mom for getting some photos of the tractors in the ring, i was unable to get any due to driveing my own tractor around the arena. All Exhibitors recieved a nice plaque for exhibiting their vintage memorabilia. Unfortunatley with winter appraoching there are not many rallies left, i am hopeing to exhibit at Newark and maybe try and attend a few more rallies before the season draws to an end. I use the winter months to reflect on the rallies i have visited over the summer and maybe some of those unfinished projects out there that are buried in the back of the barn (i think there are quite a few!!) can be finished and taken to the summer shows of next year. I am hopeing to add a new post to the blog next week because i am going to try and visit the ploughing at Chaddesley on Saturday.
